The Newcomb II — Walk-out basement version
IF you are building on a slope, you may be able to have a walk-out basement. Finishing the walk-out basement can give an additional 768 sq. ft. of living space, with the same footprint as the Newcomb slab-on-grade. Plans for the walk-out are included in the Newcomb 2 package.
NOTE: If your building lot is flat, you will NOT be able to do this.
We added a deck to the main living area (upstairs) for easy access to the outdoors from the main living area.

The walk-out basement offers enough space for a large family room, a large bedroom and a bathroom. Imagine running a home-based business here, away from the upstairs living quarters. It could also be a teenager's paradise.

We also have the Newcomb I version for building slab-on-grade.
The walk-out basement plans are included in the Newcomb 2 package.
The Newcomb is also available in Shop Prints for the serious do-it-yourselfer.
Here are some pictures of a Newcomb built by Arlington Frame Company.
Living area of the Newcomb II:
Main floor:
992 sq. ft. plus 194 sq. ft. loft
Finish the basement and add: 768 sq. ft.
Features:
- It's bigger on the inside than it looks like from the outside - we hear this comment a lot!
- There are lots of windows - especially the wrap-around windows in the kitchen/dining area.
- You'll see beautiful vaulted ceilings everywhere on the main level except the bathroom and office which are under the loft.
- The 14th-century-style timber roof is not merely decorative. That's the roof. Timber posts, beams, and curved knee braces lend an timeless ambience, and also define "rooms" within the open concept.
- Pull-down stairs in front of the bathroom provide access to a 194 sq. ft. loft/storage area. There's room there for an extra bed, and plenty of space for visiting kids to "camp out".
