Custom Timber Frame Design and Drafting Service
Arlington Frame Company offers a custom design service for people who want professionally drafted timber frame house plans for various purposes.
Suppose you have a sketch of the building you're thinking of, or a design from a magazine. We can provide the plans you need to enable you to get a building permit, some preliminary pricing for the subtrades, and an overall idea of what your project will cost.
Prices for design and drafting services
Our drafting design services are billed at the rate of $60 CAD (Canadian dollars) per hour. There is no charge for printing and mailing out the plans via express post. The final cost if influenced greatly by how many different design ideas you explore.
For the most part our clients spend an average of $2,000 - $2,800 for a full custom design. This cost represents a range of .05% - 1% of the total cost of the house.
Full design service
The timber drawings show sections or bents, timber elevations, and timber roof framing in plan view. The timbers are sized, dimensioned and labeled. They include more than enough detail for an experienced timber framer, but do not include joinery drawings. These can be done by the framers with their own methods and style.
These prints will enable you to get full quotes from all contractors, including the timber framer.
It is more economical if you find one of our stock plans to that works for you, or we may be able to modify one of our existing timber frame house plan designs to suit your needs.
Engineering
We can provide timber engineering for Nova Scotia, PEI, and New Brunswick, on frames cut by Arlington Frame Company. Other framing companies can use their own engineer already familiar with their joinery. Please note that this is engineering approval for the timber frame only.
